Friends Only

Right, I've decided to stick my LJ to friends only, after Church of Scientology used someone's public LJ to get them fired from there job. Just doing it as a bit of an extra security to cover my back if anything happens. If you want in, leave a message.

New Year

OK, so just as a checklist, could people who are coming comment, and when they think they'll arrive. TBH, we'll be around from the 29th onwards, so anytime from then on is cool. If you didn't know about it, your still invited if you wanna come.

Also, Formal wear is being done, but its not necessary. I'm not doing it, Dans not doing it and I don't think Debs is, but if you want to, go for it. And we're not gonna do any extra themey things (Food, decorations etc), since we don't have the time to get stuff prepared.

Amecon

So, me and Debs are now fully signed up and ready to go to Amecon 08. Kinda. Since we can't share at the Uni, we're trying to find hotels nearby (Walking distance) that are fairly cheap. Bradgates outta the question after hearing how crap it was last year, and I'm looking at the Park Hotel, its on the same road as the Uni, and it looks to be fairly cheap. Just wondered if anyone knew if they were decent or any alternatives?

What a load of old cock

OK, so Im guessing most know about the current edrama in the soap opera that is the internet. I'm not really gonna make an opinion on that, since I'm not really involved, yes I've heard sides, but tbh, its not my fight, and I intend to stay friends with both parties. The problem that comes into this is other people taking up the fight, when its not theirs to take up, since this causes mass problems and is basically now seemingly gonna split a group of friends down the middle, since certain people are to self righteous to bury the hatchets for a few days for someone else's happiness.

I'm not gonna mince words, this is about Deb's birthday do. She may be ok with accommodating others immature actions, but fuck it, I'm not. I've been in an identical situation where I had beef with someone and had to choose between splitting a group of friends down the middle, or acting like a fucking adult and just keeping my mouth shut. That person would be Lindsey who basically turned round one day and told Deb's she hated me. This to me seems to be exactly the same situation, except certain parties seem to not be able to reach that point of keeping there feeling in checks for a few days for someone else. I intend to stay friends with everyone involved in this little tiff but what makes me feel even more enraged is the fact that Debs has put so much effort into making other people happy, putting her happiness second, so things can go others ways, only for people to turn round and basically put there own feelings first. I'm not saying this on Deb's behalf, to be honest, she'll probably be pretty angry at me for writing this, but I had to put it out there, that people can try to say that they want to stay friends and all that shit, but obviously don't intend to try, instead trying to accommodate their own feelings or certain parties above others.

People can comment as they want, I don't intend to name or shame, and I don't feel like I dislike anyone because of events, certain people have just disappointed me cos I thought they were above this sort of pettiness.

God I'm so glad I'm leaving as soon as Uni starts. Take it from me, NEVER take a call centre job, it was the worst decision I ever made, and rue the day I didn't listen to Keiths advice to NOT get a job in one. I basically come out each day dreading the next, knowing I have another 8 hours of listening to retards babble on about how the number we gave them doesn't work, or people who don't know the correct way to use a phone. Sticking your mouth right against the mouthpiece does not mean I can hear you better, it just makes you a knob.

30 days of work left, thank fuck.

Back

So, finally back online after 3 weeks or so. Me and Dan moved into our new place and have been without internet for awhile. A strange situation indeed. Spent most of my time either at work, now at BT as a 118500 jockey, or playing the consoles. But not the 360, since we got the 3 red rings last week, which is a bugger.

But yea, signed onto Be, pretty decent, got a nice wireless router free thats functional, and the ISP is completely unlimited, usage-wise.

Mantes was awesome, as always she was a class host, and it was good to see all those I haven't seen since New Year (Basically, everyone). Bouncy Castles also = mucho win.

Also, its my 22nd today. Yay me. Feels weird but I'm feel all very disenfranchised about the whole thing. Guess its just a symptom of getting older. Off to bed now though, going to see Transformers in the morning.

Life Etc

So once again, I go ages without posting. So whats up with my life? Well I've finished my second year of Uni, which stressed me out a bit due to the mental essay work. Then I had a few nice weeks off, but thats all changed with the fact I now have a full time job for the summer. Working in the BT call centre in town answering 118500 calls (Directory Enquires). It should be simple, but already the training is getting rough. Why people just google/yell numbers I'll never know.

Dans gotten me into my latest addiction, that being Lord of the Rings Online. I played WoW for a year and never really got attached to it. It was fun, but just seemed a bit bland. This I'm instantly hooked on, I love doing the quests just to read the stories, rather than to make my XP bar move 2cm further, the Deeds system (Similar concept to 360 achievements) rock and give a) a bit more stuff to do when you're bored b) the rewards mean you can customise your character and there stats more, and I'm just a sucker for LOTR universe stuff, so its my thing. Got hold of a Founders Key as well, entitling me to a £100 lifetime subscription, which I'm gonna take up as it works out to about 8 months, which I'll be playing it for anyway, and this way I don't feel tied in to the game that I HAVE to get my moneys worth out of it, and can take it more casually. I'm on Snowbourn if anyones playing it going by the name Aiken.

Also bought Mario Strikers Charged for the Wii and wanted to snap the disc. Main reason I bought it was for the online play. Turns out whenever I try to play I get an error message. Thinking it was a problem my end, I emailed Nintendo asking how to fix it. Turns out its them, and they've not told me WHEN the problem will be sorted, just that it's "There problem". So yay. I'll get my friend code up if anyone wants it later, just leave yours below and I'll add ya.

Right, I'm gonna go try out this Overlord demo I finally downloaded and then either watch Hot Fuzz or play some LOTRO. Toodles.

The King of Infrequent Post returns!

So damn, I leave another 2 months or so between posts. Go me.

Been busy lately. Had 2 assignments due that I managed to hand in friday, marking the end of my second year at uni. Pretty happy how its gone, gotten some decent marks, although not too happy about one of my final essays, but the modules already been passed on the other 2 assignments I've done for it, so no problems.

My life now revolves around me finding a job for the summer. At the moment, I'm likely to head to the call centre in town, although I'm slightly unnerved since EVERYONE I know whos worked there hates it. Just gotta keep telling myself its only 4 months. Mind, the stress will bring one good thing - sleep. The last few nights, pretty much since I finished the uni work, without anything to worry about or run around after, I've been struck with the insomnia everyone around me seems to be experiencing, with tonight/this morning cumulating in the first time I've not slept all night against my will in years. I like my sleep dammit. I'm guessing its due to the fact I'm getting up late, not doing anything in the day, then trying to sleep while still full of energy, so unable to switch off. This leaves my brain feeling weird now, since I want to go to sleep, but I know its futile. Bah.

Oh yea, Middlesbrough Music Live next week. At first was a bit meh about it all, but listening to a few artists playing (Mainly the Evening Gazette stage for those going), I'm a bit more psyched about it now. Metal/Punk ahoy.

Why Don't You Fly Freeeeeebirrrrd......

Hmmm. So finally got my PC all up and running. Not that it didn't take 2 DAYS from putting the last bit in to having a (touch wood) fully operational Windows. It seems that its easy to build a PC unless your me, in which case you'll get every problem possible, from Windows installer not finding the HDD you want Windows on to memory errors to losing my Raid array after spending 5 hours copying stuff to it (That was my fault mind. Forgot to re-enable RAID after reseting the BIOs >_<). Doesn't help I'm still waiting on one final piece, the IDE-Sata adaptor for my old HDD that stupid ebay guy hasn't sent me, or has become lost in the post.

Now its working though, just and I love it. Oblivion now looks the sex with all settings on max, 1600x1200 HDR. Supreme Commander runs like a dream, Not tried Stalker yet but I bet thats amazing. Plus I overclocked the e6600 to 3gig from 2.4. Nice. Only problem with that is the fact that I get 1 memory error in memtest86, but it seems to be alright and stable (Again, touch wood) and I'll run it past Phil when he returns.

The biggest annoyance though is the monitor. Some reason, running it through a VGA-DVI dongle causes it to have a rather bad ghosting with text. Games look fine, but email, LJ and Word look fairly horrendous. Hopefully its either something I can fix with another dongle or that I'll just get used to (Like the Windows XP Zune theme. Love it :D), cos I don't have money to buy a new TFT (Plus I'd want one that did either 1600x1200 or the widescreen equivelent).

The biggest bitch is that I have still yet to actually do any work on either of my Uni essays cos of the bloody long setup time, so now I'm heading home to my parents for the weekend, not even gonna take the PC with me and just do crap loads of work. Which is rather crap cos I'd like to actually play Stalker, but never mind.

Also if anyone reads this before I go (1pm I think), I'm trading in Red Steel, so which would you suggest? Dragonball Z Tenchaki 2 or Godfather on the Wii? Both seem to have gotten pretty decent reviews, DBZ Budoki 3 I love so would like to try the new one out, but Godfather is an actual story based game, something lacking on the Wii. Plus throwing people against the wall/off building HAS to = the win.
I think this comment sums it up:
"If a bunch of late 80's/early 90's cartoons staged an intervention on me... I think I'd realize it was time to get clean. SO TRIPPY."

No Man Should Outlive his Fictional Wizard!

Woah, been a while since I've updated on here. No I'm not dead. Possibly. I don't seem corpsified. Anyway, thought people might be interested in what my life has been up to.

Of major importance, I quit Game! Decided I was forsaking Uni work in order to get money, which wouldn't do, so I upped and left. Everyone was a bit sad to see me going, considering I had been there over 3 years, but dammit I want my free time. That and I wasn't best pleased with the direction the shop was heading. Well, I guess I just missed not having a headless chicken as a deputy manager. I've decided to get the cash I want, I'm gonna go work at the Garlands call centre over the summer and forgo heading back to my parents. My only concern is now how do I get cheap games? I've been checking net prices, and they're still not as cheap as my discount. Fuck todgers. Might have to talk to Chris and/or Andy.

Uni is meh, didn't do as well as I'd hoped in my previous assignments, but I do have 2 essays due Friday then one a week later, so I'm working like a bugger to do well on them. 1 is finished, 1 is nearly done, need to finish it off and get my lecture to look over it, and the last is gonna get done next week. Then I seem to have freedom for like 3 months. Uni scheduling is fucked up.

Looking to the future, me and Debs are heading down to Birmingham in Feburary to see J and all the Brum people for a big ol' shindig, so looking forward to that, then the formentioned summer job, and HOPEFULLY a trip to Amecon. Still deciding whether to go or not, but verdict will most likely say YES. Looking even further forward, plans have been set in motion that there's a chance of a trip to Florida next summer with Debs. Funky.

So yea, that was my obligatory bi-monthly "I'm not dead! SEE!" post.

2006 Meme

Stolen off of radical_ed_21

1. What did you do in 2006 that you'd never done before?
Went to Alton Towers

2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Can't remember if I made one last year. This coming year, I intend to actually try and get fit and go to the gym

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Nope

4. Did anyone close to you die?
Nope

5. What countries did you visit?
Scotland. Does that count as a country?

6. What would you like to have in 2007 that you lacked in 2006?
The confidence in myself to make some more close friends

7. What date from 2006 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
Shenanicon at Auchinawa

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Passing my first year of Media Studies with some pretty impressive results

9. What was your biggest failure?
Not sticking to my word and joining the gym when I got back to Uni

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Nothing of interest

11. What was the best thing you bought?
A toss up between my Wii, Dans 360 and Guitar Hero 2

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
Debs, shes been so strong for herself and for me, especially when it seems like everythings falling down around me (And even when it IS falling down around me ie the celling at my flat)

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Amy/Jess

14. Where did most of your money go?
The week where I bought my Wii and went to Auchinawa

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Auchinawa, the Wii and Alton Towers

16. What song will always remind you of 2006?
3 Doors Down - Kryptonite

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder? Happier
ii. richer or poorer? MUCH poorer

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Seeing more of the people I really want to be around

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Angsting about minor things

20. How will you be spending Christmas?
With my parents, brother and uncle and at work

22. Did you fall in love in 2006?
I was IN love in 2006

23. How many one-night stands?
none

24. What was your favorite TV program?
Heroes, with BSG coming a close second

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Probably Amy and Jess for how they treated Debs

26. What was the best book you read?
Zombie Survival Guide

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
3 Doors Down

28. What did you want and get?
Wii

29. What did you want and not get?
Final Fantasy 3. Bloody CD Wow

30. What was your favorite film of this year?
James Bond, Clerks 2 and Children of Men

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
21, and my family took me and Debs to Alton Towers

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Not being so poor right now

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2006?
Far more skater. Longer hair, baggier clothes and a beard

34. What kept you sane?
Debs

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Allison Mack

36. What political issue stirred you the most?
Net Neutrality

37. Who did you miss?
My mates from Kent

38. Who was the best new person you met?
Linds, Al and Kippers

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2006.
Just because it seems like you're on your own doesn't mean you don't have people looking after you

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
I really don't mind what happens now and then
As long as you'll be my friend at the end (3 Doors Down - Kryptonite)

Update on Me

Yea, I'm not gonna be online at all till the end of this week. My PC blew up. Well more to the point my PSU blew up, but it might as well have taken the PC, cos I now have to wait till thursday for a replacement, and none of my other housemates have a spare. On the plus side, this means I have unlimited time to play Zelda, which I'm 30 hours into, and no work till Wednesday.

Otherwise, I've been watching Ghost in the Shell SAC which I got at Auchinawa, and me and my housemate Dan have gotten into Marvels Supreme Power graphic novels, which he's been buying on pretty much a daily basis and I've been reading as he finishes. Pretty good series, and they're not afraid to be pretty graphic with the violence. But yea, if you have anything urgent to tell me, text me.

Auchinawa

Right, now that I'm slightly more awake, here's a random ass con report

Thursday
After staying at Debs parents in Carlisle the night, we jumped on a train to Glasgow, and ended up in the hotel. After checking in and all that crap, we found our badges, and discovered we'd missed the opening ceremony (as well as the non-events list). Met up with keith_copping, felflowne and Bruce (Christ guys, I really mean it when I say thank you so much or putting up with me and Debs), then proceeded to wander about. Can't quite remember what else happened up until the disco, but I do remember meeting up with daryoon_ and ssayaoi among others, who where also awesomeness, especially Dary with his now infamous it would seem masks :D I think we went to Ichiban somewhere in there, which was damn nice. The next thing I remember was heading to the ball to see what was going on, that ending, someone playing with Poiballs, then KERSMASH as poiball flys off string straight into chandelier, and smashing a piece off it. oops. After this, it turned into the school disco, although I don't remember Killing in the Name Of playing at any of my school discos. Sleep then prevailed.

Friday
Got up nice and early and met people for breakfast. After this, we did the usual milling around, got our NON-events list, I think me and Debs played some guitar hero, and I got GitS: SAC from the dealers room, as well as some signed prints by Scott. Then we headed into Glasgow and I ended up buying Yoshis Island DS, good game that. Then we went to the Scott & Dave Webcomic Panel. Damn good fun that, and was interesting to see a picture get created from nothing. Then there was the Omake. MECHAZAWAS GUIDE TO BEING AN ANIME BADASS FTW!!! Space Prison where pretty decent to, as where the guys who did the rock version of the MGS2 theme at the end. After this, it was the AMV Disco, and much drinking was had.

Saturday
Didnt get up all that early. I can't really remember much of Saturday tbh, again just milling round. The masquade was ace, especially Mechazawa absolutely pwning Ashram. That shit should become legendary. Emily's Amy Rose was also really cool, as was the dude who did Gin from Bleach, since I'd seen him wearing glasses all con, then he wasn't for the masquade, so props to that man for doing the masquade blind. Then we started drinking more. Also talked to Junp3i a bit, who I haven't seen in a long while and was cool to catch up with.

Sunday
Last day of the con. Again more milling around. Got myself into a Guitar Hero stand-off, and lost to a damn fine player on Freebird. Went to Weatherspoons for lunch with Keith, Claire and Rich, then headed back for the auction, which was entertaining. Then the closing ceremony. About this point, we met Emily, who'd been having really shitty luck all weekend, and basically ended up missing her train home by about 2 seconds, so Claire offered to put her up for the night, then we found out she was heading to Boro, and was going to the road parallel to Debs. Random as, so we said we'd travel back with her. Then we headed to Shenanicon, where we watched Transformers, watched people drink a shit load of Absinthe and then Andy and Rich perform the Deal or No Deal opera & rap. Then sleep.

Monday we had the 6 hour long train journey back to Middlesbrough. Fun.

Gotta say, was awesome seeing people again, including the Keith and Claire and the Derby lot who are all ace. The con was fun, but it was all rather spread out, so it felt like there wasn't much to do. Plus much of the time, stuff started extremely late, so hence Queueanawa.

But I had fun, and have decided not to give up on cons and will be at Amecon next year.

Dear World - You Suck

Two things that have annoyed me:

1) Torchwood - This seemed to be a possibly very good sci-fi show from the first episode. Then that second episode happened. While I don't mind sexual and gay content in a sci-fi show, having it thrust at us every 20 seconds does not entertain me. It seems RTD has decided to make this into another Queer as Folk, rather than a fairly serious adult sci-fi show (Compared to Doctor Who anyway). Just because sex is an adult thing doesn't mean it needs to be the main crux of the show. X-Files managed to do a few episodes concerning sex well (Gender Bender is the main one that comes to mind, mid first series) and that didn't make me cringe like Torchwood did.

2) Companies not being able to deliver the right sodding product - Ordered Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories a few weeks ago of Amazon Marketplace, and ended up with a Canadian copy. A FRENCH Canadian copy. SO had to go to the trouble of getting it all sent back and sorted. Ordered Smallville series 5 Region 1, purely for the fact that the Region 1 boxset doesnt have those shitty thin-pak dvd boxes all the companies seem intent on pushing on us. CD Wow send me the region 2 boxset anyway ¬_¬ Call me anal, but rather than keep it (Also for the fact that if I'd wanted the R2 box, I coulda got it about a fiver cheaper), I've now got to go to the trouble of once again getting it sent back and waiting for a new one to be returned. Gah.

Danger, Possible Sky Falling

Well, my house just fell apart. Literally. Me, Debs, Dan and Rob where sitting watching TV when we heard an almighty crash. Checking the hall way we discovered that a BLEEDING HUGE CHUNK of plaster had come away from the celling and moved itself to the floor, and the remaining plaster doesn't exactly look stable. What with the fact that we now require a new oven after the other day the oven door fell off when I was using it, we need to go and get onto the letting agent again, who seem to be so fucking shit that they never actually get anything done. So fun for me tomorrow, and thats all before work. At least I'm coming home with a 360 that I'm not paying for but still get to play.

So, Amazon Marketplace eh. Bought Kingdom Hearts on the GBA, to fill this KH fix I'm on at the moment (Nearly finished 1, getting 2 from work for free hopefully). WAS gonna buy it through normal channels, but saw that a proper store on Amazon Market Place had it quite a bit cheaper. "Oh" I think, and proceed to buy it. This morning recieved a parcel. Opened it, and the US copy of the game was in it. No worries, I throught, since 1/2 my GBA collection is American. Then I open up the game. French manual. They've sent me a goddamn Canadian version, that isn't even the goddamn english one. Tried the game out, and it looks like its in English, but I've emailed the shop I bought it from, but still not heard owt.

Luckily Amazon have a garantee thing with marketplace, where if it isn't the correct version (Technically, since its the Canadian one, it isn't since I found it via the UK version of the game on Amazon), they'll refund me and try and sort it out. Gonna get the refund then buy a normal copy for a few quid more. Bah, stupid marketplace dealers.
